Government & Politics Department

The subject introduces students to the study of Politics by looking at the central ideas of citizenship, democracy, participation and how people are represented in the political process, including the role of the media in determining voting behaviour. It also examines the key ideologies that have shaped our political system and the major institutions of UK government. It provides an opportunity to explore key issues affecting the UK, such as ‘Brexit’, and covers the global political issues affecting all our lives such as human rights and the ‘War on Terror’.
