The Enfield Music Services' (EMS) Secondary School Piano Competition at The United Reformed Church, Palmers Green.
A HUGE thank you to Ms Kemp and Mrs Warren at EMS for their support this year and to the Rotary Club for putting on such a wonderful evening
Excellence, Belonging, Responsibility. Three words we hear regularly at Chace, but these two young men have gone above and beyond this year and received their rewards.
First, our Year 9 pupil, who only had his first official piano lesson in September 2024 wowed the audience with his performance of the Grade 4 piece 'Cloudscapes' by Ailbhe McDonagh. The judges spoke of the joy and control that his performance brought. His tone on the beautiful grand piano that he performed on, was magical.
And as for our Year 11 student, he won the award (receiving his certificate and cash prize from the Rotary Club) for his performance of the Grade 5 piece 'In the Groove' by Mike Cornick. Both judges spoke of the 'coolness' of the performance as he demonstrated a clear understanding of the jazz style. A wonderful performance showing technical control and flair in equal measure with tricky syncopation and triplets handled with ease.
This is the culmination of dedication and determination to their art. We are so proud of both of you!
