This week during Physics club, the students went outside and launched rockets that they had designed out of card to see whose design went farthest. This tested their design skills as well as incorporating maths by working out the best angle to launch their rocket from.

Mayor’s Award for Science
Congratulations to our Year 9 student for coming 3rd in the Mayor’s Award for Science competition held this week. She and three other Chace students competed against several other Enfield schools at the competition held at Middlesex Univerisity.
Finding the Higgs Boson
Dr Maria Pavlidou from the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Birmingham, with Winning students after finding the Higgs Boson and calculating the mass of the Z boson. Using the Atlantis software, students carried out the analysis and calculations in much the same way as the particle Physicists working with the ATLAS detector at CERN.
East meets West at the Greenwich Observatory
Students from 7DTh stand on the meridian line at the Greenwich Observatory. Thank you to all of the Science team for organising the trip for all Year 7 students.
CSI Chace
Year 7-9 science club got off to a great start, with two weeks of Forensics club. The pupils collected and analysed samples from crime scenes to successfully identify the culprit! The next club will be “Sport Scientists” held on November 9th, 16th and 23rd October. We hope to see you there!
