As a part of the education at Chace Community School, we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive Life Skills education programme, including Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE), Careers, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and citizenship. PSHE education is the curriculum subject that gives young people the knowledge, understanding, strategies and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential.
RSE lessons include teaching about healthy relationships, including friendships and intimate relationships; families; growing and changing, including puberty; personal hygiene; changing feelings; becoming more independent; keeping safe and consent; developing self-esteem and confidence.
We use a range of resources to support the teaching of Life Skills, including Unifrog, Brain Waves, Young Citizens, the PSHE Association, the Big Legal Lesson and Young Minds. The curriculum outline is a spiral model, meaning that topics and subjects are re-visited at an age-appropriate level.
Further information will be shared with parents/carers when sensitive topics are being discussed, or with details of workshops and programmes on our Enrichment Days.
Pupils will at all points have opportunities to ask questions that help prepare them for relationships of all kinds in the modern world. PSHE education is taught throughout the school in every year group and is monitored and reviewed regularly by the staff and governing body, available on the website.
All PSHE teaching takes place in a safe learning environment and is underpinned by our school ethos and values. We always welcome feedback and dialogue, so please do get in touch with any queries or concerns.
