At Chace we believe that homework:
– is integral to learning and that the home – school partnership make our homework policy work through the active support of parents/carers.
– reinforces and complements learning in the classroom and beyond and promotes lifelong learning.
– provides teachers with information on which to base future planning and provides opportunity for assessment and feedback to students.
The school uses ‘Google Classroom’ to share homework tasks with the students. The amount of homework a child receives varies according to their age and the nature of the homework activity. We review annually how much homework students are being set but currently follow the guidelines below:
Group | Time |
---|---|
Years 7-8 | 45-90 minutes a day (approximately 20-30 minutes a subject) |
Year 9 | 1-2 hours a day (approximately 30-40 minutes a subject) |
Years 10-11 | 1.5-2.5 hours a day (approximately 1 hour a subject) |
Years 12-13 | 4-6 hours per subject per week |
The homework timetable below indicates the night on which students should complete their homework in each subject although homework may be set by the subject teacher a day or so beforehand, depending on when the nearest lesson occurs.
