The Year 8 council met on Wednesday 21st November 2018 to share the issues they feel are most important to Year 8 as well as their opinions on uniform and rewards. They also received their badges.
Their notes have been minuted and will be shared at the next student council meeting later this month.
The Year 8 inter-form debate competition was won by 8MNAT. Two representatives from 8MNAT put forward a strong debate for ‘Single-sex education’ being the best option for our educational success! They researched and planned their debate well and put forward convincing arguments to represent this viewpoint (despite their actual views on the subject).
Our talented and brave Year 8 and 9 students faced seven other Enfield schools in the finals of the Mayor’s Debate Award. It was a fierce competition and our students strongly debated the issues of capital punishment and political leadership. Though we were not winners this year, they certainly represented Chace in an outstanding way showing confidence and courage.
Year 8 and 9 pupils involved in ‘Brilliant Club’ had a taste of the life of a university medical student when they attended lectures and seminars at the Guys Hospital campus of Kings College London.
Students were challenged and stretched throughout the day and clearly thrived under the pressure. The tutor working with them was very impressed with the quality of their work and attitude to learning.
A brilliant effort all round!
A group of Year 8 & 9 students are currently being taught some A-Level Maths during a series of after school Maths Masterclasses. This week’s session was an introduction to calculus. All of the students approached the tasks set with real enthusiasm.
A team from Year 8 and Year 9 are heading to the finals of the Mayor’s Debate Award in March. This is after representing the school in an intense debate about whether students should have complete free choice in their GCSE options.
Our Year 8 and Year 10 Netballers both won their first matches of the season against Heron Hall with two fantastic wins, 8-0 and 16-1. Congratulations to both and here’s to a great start and hopefully the beginning of a winning streak!
