Chace Library recently entered students into various writing competitions. Our Librarian has set up workshops to help students with poems as well as short stories that are based on chosen human rights issues. We are proud of the following students as their work has now been published nationwide.
During my trip at the Body Worlds Museum, it educated me about the inner workings and mechanisms of the human body and showed me a variety of effects the daily lifestyle choices and risk factors have on our health and nutrition. There was a range of areas of the museum that displayed the different body systems such as the digestive system, the respiratory system, the reproductive system, the cardiovascular system, the locomotive system and the nervous system. In addition to all of that, is showcased how they preserved human bodies using the process of plastination which was also amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to body worlds and would recommend it anyone to who is intrigued about the human body.

This week our unsqueamish Year 12 Biology students dissected a sheep head. During the A level Biology course students learn about role of the nervous system in relation to homoeostasis, this hands on experience allowed them to identify key anatomical structures.

Please note that on Monday 26th November there is an all-day rehearsal for the school play. Students involved across the year groups will be needed P1-6. They will attend morning registration as usual. A cast list will be displayed in the staff room and students will be made aware that they need to catch up on any work missed. And! The school play is on Thursday 29th and Friday 30th November at 6pm in the Drama Studios. Please do come along and show your support for another fantastic cast of young talent! Tickets will be sold in the Drama Office and in the LRC for £1 with all proceeds going to charity.

The Year 8 council met on Wednesday 21st November 2018 to share the issues they feel are most important to Year 8 as well as their opinions on uniform and rewards. They also received their badges.
Their notes have been minuted and will be shared at the next student council meeting later this month.
The Year 7 Council met today to share their opinions on a range of topics including uniform, rewards, and other issues of concern for them. They made notes which will be passed on to the student council for discussion at their meeting next week.
Superzones are an area of 400m radius around secondary schools in which action is taken to protect young people’s health and encourage healthy behaviours through targeted intervention. Chace have been chosen to be a pilot school for this initiative.
The student council welcomed Ailbhe and Marghe from the Enfield Public Health department and Mr. Bruton, the Headteacher for a working lunch this week to discuss this issue. The student council shared their priorities and gave valuable feedback about ways in which the initiative could be implemented.
The top deck of a purple bus was transformed into a mobile showroom stocking over 1000 books. Year 7’s had the opportunity to visit the bus and were able to place an order for the books they wanted to purchase. It was a fun day that sparked conversations around re-creating and modernising a culture of reading. Thank you to all the Year 7’s for their perfect behaviour and the staff from Browns books for Students who travelled such a long way to be with us!
At the end of the summer term, the student council arranged for a non-uniform day. The money was donated to the Ben Kinsella Trust. We raised £636. The money raised has allowed the trust to provide three more anti-knife workshops which will educate 90 more young people about the dangers of carrying a knife.
The next non-uniform day will be at the end of this term and the student council will be asking the student body which charity we should support next.
